Cytochrome c reducing substances in photosynthetic electron transport.

چکیده
Photosynthetic cytochrome c reduction by isolated chloroplasts is mediated by substances with characteristics of a “Cytochrome c Reducing Substance” (CRS). A water soluble extract of ether treated, lyophilized chloroplasts (called SL-eth), related to the primary acceptor complex of photo system I, has CRS-activity. It contains p-coumaroyl-meso-tartaric acid. By comparison with model substances, the CRS-activity in chloroplasts is attributed to the iron complex of this compound. A number of other iron complexes and numerous quinones with redox potentials from — 220 mV to + 300 mV are also shown to possess CRS-activity. The CRS preparation from the blue green alga Anabaena cylindrica, as first described by Fujita and Myers, contains Fe3+/EDTA, which has all W. Oettmeier and W. ENERGY TRANSDUCTION BY COUPLING OF PROTON TRANSLOCATION TO ELECTRON TRANSFER BY THE CYTOCHROME bc, COMPLEX*
The cytochrome bcl complex is an oligomeric membrane protein complex which is a component of the mitochondrial respiratory chain and of the electron transfer chains of numerous bacteria which use oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur compounds as terminal electron acceptors. The cytochrome bcl complex also participates in the cyclic transfer of electrons to and from the photosynthetic reaction centers i...
متن کاملATP synthase repression in tobacco restricts photosynthetic electron transport, CO2 assimilation, and plant growth by overacidification of the thylakoid lumen.
Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) plants strictly adjust the contents of both ATP synthase and cytochrome b(6)f complex to the metabolic demand for ATP and NADPH. While the cytochrome b(6)f complex catalyzes the rate-limiting step of photosynthetic electron flux and thereby controls assimilation, the functional significance of the ATP synthase adjustment is unknown. Here, we reduced ATP synthase accu...

A key component of the oxidative biogeochemical sulphur cycle involves the utilization by bacteria of reduced inorganic sulphur compounds as electron donors to photosynthetic or respiratory electron transport chains. The SoxAX protein of the photosynthetic bacterium Rhodovulum sulfidophilum is a heterodimeric c-type cytochrome that is involved in the oxidation of thiosulphate and sulphide. The ...
متن کاملElectrochemical Field-Effect Transistor Utilization to Study the Coupling Success Rate of Photosynthetic Protein Complexes to Cytochrome c
Due to the high internal quantum efficiency, reaction center (RC) proteins from photosynthetic organisms have been studied in various bio-photoelectrochemical devices for solar energy harvesting. In vivo, RC and cytochrome c (cyt c; a component of the biological electron transport chain) can form a cocomplex via interprotein docking. This mechanism can be used in vitro for efficient electron tr...
متن کاملA systems-level analysis of the effects of light quality on the metabolism of a cyanobacterium.
Photosynthetic organisms experience changes in light quantity and light quality in their natural habitat. In response to changes in light quality, these organisms redistribute excitation energy and adjust photosystem stoichiometry to maximize the utilization of available light energy. However, the response of other cellular processes to changes in light quality is mostly unknown. Here, we repor...
